Why should I take Ag?
.Agriculture Education is a comprehensive hands on program that will give you a background in agriculture, leadership, communications and open the doors to millions of dollars of scholarships. It is part of the CTE (Career and Technical Education program). If you are not college bound, it will give you the hands on skills necessary to gain employment out of high school or a head start to a technical school. If you are college bound it will give up life long skills to help you survive in regards to communication, public speaking, team work and scholarship money Suggested classes to take to fulfill graduation requirements: Animal Science Pathway 9th grade: Animal Science 1 10th grade: Biology Ag 11th: Vet Assisting/Equine Science*/ Leadership 12th: Animal Science 2*/Vet Assisting/Leadership *can be alternated depending on scheduling needs Plant Systems Pathway 9th Grade: Floral Design/Landscape Management or Plant and Soil Science 10th Grade: Ag Biology 11th Grade: Plant Science or Floral Design 12th Grade: Floral Design or Plant Science *these courses my be flip flopped This sample schedule will give you the following requirements for graduation: 1 Biological Science Credit 1 Elective Science Credit 1 Applied Technology/CTE Credit .5 Career Credit .5 Social Science credit with Leadership .25 to .5 Art Credit for Floral Up to 1 elective credit - if you take Summer Ag (.25 per summer per year) .25 to .5 Art Credit. All classes may be mixed and matched depending on your interest. If you are planning to use Ag classes to get your elective and biological sciences, take Biology as a SOPHOMORE from Mrs. Silcox and focus on Animal Science or Plant Science as a freshman. |

The word Ag designates the class as the one to take to fulfill your FFA membership if you are interested. It also implies that examples and teaching models will be from the Agriculture industry. It in no way implies the class is easier or different from Biology. Mrs. Silcox has a biology teaching endorsement. *** Will count 1/2 Social Science Credit * Count as elective science credit **** Can use as a portion of art credit CTE CORDS & Graduation RECOGNITION: If you complete the Animal Science Pathway, Ag Production Pathway or the Plant Systems Pathway you will receive a CTE Cord at graduation and be recognized for your involvement in Agriculture Education.
